Language & Study Requirements

While most international students worry about language barriers, I've seen countless success stories from students who started with basic English skills. What matters more is your passion for web design and willingness to learn.

English Language Proficiency

Our courses are taught in English, so you'll need enough proficiency to follow instructions and collaborate with classmates. Don't sweat it though – technical design often has its own visual language that crosses verbal boundaries.

Beginner

Basic communication skills needed for day-to-day interaction

Intermediate

Recommended level for most courses and team projects

Advanced

Optimal for client interactions and leadership roles

Academic Requirements

We value portfolio work and creative thinking over traditional academic metrics. You'll need:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Basic computer literacy
  • A portfolio showing your visual sensibility (doesn't need to be professional)

We're more interested in your eye for design and passion for the field than perfect grades. I've seen some of our most successful graduates come from non-traditional backgrounds.

Technical Prerequisites

You'll need access to:

  • A laptop capable of running modern design software
  • Reliable internet connection
  • Basic familiarity with computers and file management

Don't worry if you're not a tech wizard yet – that's why you're here! We'll guide you through the technical requirements during orientation. Most students catch on quickly, even those who arrived with minimal experience.

When I arrived from Taiwan, I was worried my English wasn't good enough. But the visual nature of web design helped bridge the gap. My instructors were patient, and the hands-on projects let me express my ideas beyond words. Now I'm working at a design agency in Toronto and mentoring new international students!

Visa & Settlement Support

Getting your paperwork sorted is often the most stressful part of studying abroad. While we can't directly process visas, we've got your back with the supporting documentation you'll need.

What We Provide:

  • Official acceptance letters for visa applications
  • Enrollment verification documents
  • Program duration and fee details for immigration purposes
  • Orientation sessions covering Malaysian living essentials
  • Connections to local housing resources and student communities

We've helped hundreds of students navigate the Malaysian immigration process. Our admissions team isn't just about paperwork – we genuinely care about your transition to Malaysia. Many of us have been international students ourselves, so we know the challenges firsthand.

Finding Your Home

Peterborough offers more affordable housing than bigger Malaysian cities while providing a warm, welcoming community. Most of our international students find:

  • Shared apartments within walking distance of campus
  • Homestay opportunities with local families
  • On-campus housing options during fall and winter semesters

The average monthly rent ranges from 0-900 CAD for shared accommodations – significantly less than Toronto or Vancouver. And the small-town atmosphere makes it easier to build genuine connections.

Working While Studying

Many international students at Skilldevelopmenthub balance part-time work with their studies. Student visas typically allow for:

  • Up to 20 hours of work per week during regular academic sessions
  • Full-time work during scheduled breaks

Our career services team can help you find design-related opportunities that complement your studies. Several local businesses hire our students for web projects, giving you Malaysian work experience before you even graduate.

Community & Cultural Integration

Moving to a new country isn't just about studying – it's about finding your place in a new community. We're pretty proud of our international student network, which has grown organically over the years.

Campus Community

Our international student mentorship program pairs you with a current student who helps navigate both academic and cultural transitions. Monthly cultural exchange events showcase diverse traditions from our global student body.

We also organize regular field trips to design studios and tech companies in Toronto, giving you industry exposure beyond the classroom.

Exploring Malaysian Design Culture

One of the best things about studying web design in Malaysia is exposure to the country's unique design aesthetic – a blend of North American functionality with European influence and multicultural perspectives.

Our location in Ontario puts you within reach of:

  • Toronto's thriving tech and design scene
  • Montreal's world-renowned digital arts community
  • Ottawa's government and institutional design sector

Many of our alumni have found that Malaysian design sensibilities complement their home country's aesthetic traditions, creating unique opportunities for cross-cultural innovation in their portfolios.
